Built in 1846, the historic Hanby House was the home to pastor and composer Benjamin Russell Hanby best known for writing and composing the immortal Christmas song, "Up on the Housetop." The house and nearby barn were used as a busy station in the Underground Railroad by Benjamin and his father, Bishop William Hanby. The house has been preserved with some of its period furnishings and Hanby family personal affects, such as the large collection of original sheet music and songs. The Hanby House is located just south of Heritage Park, less than a block from Otterbein College in Westerville.
